I got RealFlight G5 a while back, and just realized I could download my own photofield.
I was at the field Sunday and thankfully Stewart Garrett had plowed and it was a great day. So I got out my tripod and digicam and took a crock full of pictures.
I spent many hours stiching and cloning and came up with a pretty good file. And the plane actually lands and crashes on the runway.
Posted is a small file to give you an idea. If you would like a 4 meg jpeg file send me an email and I will get it to you.
To load it, go to Simulation, then Import, then Raw Panoramic file. It takes about 10 minutes to configure so be patient. Then you can add buzzards, and a windsock, carnival, boneyard items etc. if you like.

I seems this will work on all since G3.
I used a tripod and took 12 equally spaced horizontal and then took 12 more up and down.
The file needs to be 360* x 180*, so the image is 2:1 ratio format.
I had a hard time stitching on the vertical images which is where the cloning comes in. I am working on a bigger better file with more real and less cloning. This current file is real nice though. Give it a try and let me know if you want the bigger file later. When it greens up a little I'll do this again, thought the snow is interesting.
Send me your email to:

Here are a couple screen captures.

That is freekin awesome :)

G5 is a lot of fun, but I miss the old games. The combat is fun, but the limbo, pylon racing, and landing contests were fun too.

If you can send me the hi-res image, I could add some objects to crash into.

I have the new improved version ready at 8000x4000 pixels and 7.2megs. and much improved sky and ground. Though in normal flying you rarely see more than the middle third. If you're interested.

Hey Rod, echoing Daniel and other's sentiments, OUTSTANDING!!!! We've got it loaded into our RealFlight Version 4
down here at the shop and on a 40" LCD it's like standing out at the East Field Flying. Highly recommended, and anyone that wants to see how it looks in operation, give Chuck or I a call 7-5 M-F, 303-423-1264 and then come on down and take a look.

very very cool.

Would anyone be interested in bringing a simulator setup with our field to the Wings Over the Rockies model show thingy? It would be super cool to have our field on a simulator... we gotta do something better than the other clubs, and they all brought simulators last year.

Well I will be bringing my lap top, but it's small. Arnold offered a projector, so maybe that will work.

Would the projector require dim lighting? Maybe Frank D. could donate his 40" LCD? :o

Hey All,

Does anyone have an updated version of the field with windsocks and such added? I always end up with the darn thing in the middle of the runway or something...

Thanks,

Franny
